I'M NEW TO CIGARS... how did I get here & where am I going
So, first off my name is Crespin Aka The Cigar Apostle, but I'll talk about that in later blog. I am fairly new to this Cigar world. This world of more people I meet the more I understand what makes the cigar different from any other tobacco products. Me growing up only saw a few men smoke cigars in person had the King Edward's Cigar. Mainly cause back then we had a cigar box for our pencils or crayons to use at school or church class. Never thought about it being influenced to have children actually want to smoke cigar at a early age.
And I only seen 1 person ever smoke a tobacco pipe. Everyone else I saw growing up was either on TV, the Movies or comic books.
W.C. Fields, Gomez Adam's, the President and movie stars. Even cartoons looney Tunes , the flintstones. Good guys celebrating, the villain to look bad ass or evil.
My life with Tobacco started at a young age .
My mother and most of family mainly smoked cigarettes and I did too for a while. Then I got into chewing and snuff Tobacco and even tried the plug and inhaling powder Tobacco. And the gas station type cigars black and milds, white owls a king Edward once it was all good just always seem something missing . When I started to play golf and that didnt really go anywhere I saw guys smoking a big fat cigar. And thats when I knew I had to look into it. Well thats what I thought. Being around 22yrs old in 2000 I went to humidor in a local liqour store and looked around and thats when I got overwhelmed. I saw prices 5$ 8$ 15$25$. And for one cigar. I didn't have money to just buy 1 and if I didn't like it, that would be a waste of money. Plus I didn't know what the difference was and why they were so expensive .
So , I waited 20 more years on my Birthday I went back to a liqour store Spec's in Texas. And there was a worker there and she was so knowledgeable she guided me as a novice. To 2 cigars that would start my cigar lifestyle. She ask have you had 1 before I said not a real one, she laughed then she asked , do you drink coffee? And for me I said honestly ( and be honest when answering ) I just started to drink coffee never really cared for the taste. Most of my coffee is alot of flavored cream and a little bit of coffee, like Starbucks. Lol I also didn't realize that smoking a cigar had notes as of coffee and expresso which can be light to pretty strong. So then she asked how much did I wish to spend? I said about 20 dollars which I hoped to get a few cigar but ended up with only 2. She recommended me to try the Drew Estate FAT Bottom Betty, which I liked the band and she said it was infused ( I didn't know what that really meant, but thought oh its gonna taste or smell really nice ) and the Padron 2000 which the only thing I thought of when I heard Padron is that's gonna be a big boy cigar and sounded fancy. So I smoked both 1 that night and the second the next. So at 1st it was the FBB and I was like wow this is good and second night was the Padron and I was like ok it's more Tobacco and yes I could see what was like the coffee note. After smoking them I started to do research on YouTube and that's where I got hooked, mainly on all the information and all the reviewers excitement in each and every cigar.
There was alot to learn and I knew I would have to update my allowance and time if I wanted to continue cigars . My advice is 1st ask do I want to continue? And do a little research and ask questions, so many people will be excited to tell you their thoughts. Each cigar has different blends of Tobacco that makes them unique and you can have tasting note of coffee, expresso, floral and cocoa
Some can have a sweet taste some can have a earthy leather and cedar
Some have a pepper or spice that can feel like you ate Wasabi. Everyone has a different palate and some people can not every find the notes. If you are a novice or starting out welcome to the world of cigars. I have met so many people male and females that not only smoke but are in the business of Rolling cigars and selling. I appreciate you reading this and hope you find that cigar that gives you that Wow factor.
